A terrestrial orchid that grows amongst forest litter in Malaysia, Indonesia and Burma. Coming from lower elevations, this orchid requires warm and shady conditions and is suitable to be grown as a houseplant. It is primarily grown for its decorative leaves that have a velvet texture. Leaves are carried on stout succulent stems with prominent nodes.

The lop-sided flowers are produced on terminal inflorescences. When pollinated, small oval hairy fruits form, taking only a month to ripen and burst to disperse its seeds.
