Locations

Most of the photographs were taken of plants in my garden. A few were shot in different locations around New Zealand. Here is the list of those locations.

Auckland Region, New Zealand

Photographs from locations around Auckland City.
Albany Reserve
A bush reserve in north Auckland known for orchids and sundews.
The Auckland Botanic Gardens is located in Manurewa, a suburb in South Auckland.
The Auckland City Domain is a park created on an extinct volcano. It contains sports fields, grassed areas, mature trees and gardens. The Wintergardens is a complex of two greenhouses (one cool, and another heated), a courtyard with pond and a fernery. The Auckland War Memorial Museum is adjacent to the park.
The Auckland Orchid Club holds an annual orchid show at the Kelston Community Centre. Prior to 2007, this show was held at the West Wave Centre.
Cedar Lodge, Kiwifruit orchard
Long Bay Beach Reserve
Long Bay is a beach reserve in the North Shore.
Luckens Reserve, Waitakere City
Luckens Reserve is a small park in West Harbour adjacent to a beach on the Waitemata Harbour.
Manukau Velodrome
Marina View School, West Harbour
Marina View School is across the road from Luckens Reserve.
New Zealand Orchid Society Meeting, Mt. Albert Memorial Hall
Theo's
A private garden at Omaha.
Western Springs
Originally the spring which supplied water to Auckland, Western Springs is now a park with a main lake (which is home to a number of bird species) and a series of smaller ponds. The Western Springs Garden is across the road (Great North Road). Note that this garden no longer exists. Auckland zoo is adjacent to the park.

Canterbury, New Zealand

Christchurch Botanical Gardens

The Christchurch Botanical Gardens is located inside Hagley Park.

Coromandels, New Zealand

Tairua
Tairua is the main town on the East coast of the Coromandels.

Taranaki Region, New Zealand

Taranaki is province in the West coast of the North Island, dominated by Mt. Taranaki / Mt. Egmont volcano. A circular area around the mountain of some 33500 hectares forms the Egmont National Park. The rest of the province is made up of fertile farmland, surrounded on three sides by the sea.
Dawson Falls, Mt. Taranaki

A 16m waterfall situated 800m up the slopes of Mt Taranaki.
Pukeiti
A very large garden on the flanks of Mount Taranaki, surrounded by rain forest.
A gem of a park located in the heart of New Plymouth. The dominant feature is a man made central lake surounded by mature trees and crossed by several bridges. There is an artificial waterfall that is operated by a pump and reservoir, and a complex of greenhouses called the Fernery. The park is lit up during the Festival of Lights.

Waitakere Ranges, New Zealand

Auckland City Walk / Cascade Falls
The Auckland City Walk is a loop walk in the Cascades / Kauri Park. At the start of the track, a swing bridge crosses the Waitakere Stream and the track follows the stream for some distance. At around the half way mark is a short detour up a narrow gully to the Cascade Falls. The waterfall can be viewed through a slit in the rock, but unfortunately, a large boulder blocks most of the view. Along the track are numerous large kauri trees, the largest being "Aunty Agathis", right at the end of the track.
Fairy Falls Track
The Fairy Falls is a series of falls along the Fairy Falls Stream. The main falls (centre picture) is right at the bottom and the top is made up of a series of small falls. Track access is from either from Summit Road or Mountain Road; the falls are about an hour's walk from the respective carparks. The area is botanically very diverse and there are a number of large kauri trees around the falls.
