Epidendrum centropetalum

Flowers
Family Orchidaceae
Name Epidendrum centropetalum
Abbreviation Epi.
Synonyms Oerstedella centradenia
Epidendrum centradenum
Etymology
Epidendrum From Greek epi meaning upon, and Greek dendron meaning tree, referring to the habbit of Epidendrum species growing on trees or being epiphytic, however not all Epidendrum species are epiphytic, a few are terrestrial.

  See also:  Cattleya

This Epidendrum produces thin canes and masses of roots thicker than the canes. It has a tendency to keikei and will even flower on keikei growths. Because of this, it is better grown tied to a ponga raft. The pink long lasting flowers are produced in the winter through to spring. It comes from intermediate elevation montane forest of Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.
