Orchids in the Wild
Auckland Orchid Club Orchids in the Wild
This display by the Auckland Orchid Club (now Waitakere Orchid CLub) shows how orchids would have grown in the wild.
A mural of Mount Pirongia was used as the backdrop and a water feature provided the focal point.
The rest of the display was built to blend into the backdrop.
Disa orchids naturally grow in water and they were placed inside and around the water feature.
A group of colourful Masdevallia orchids make up the left of the display.
A path in between is lined with Sarcochillus orchids.
There are orchids growing on a tree behind the Masdevallias.
Gold Medal / Supreme Award Horticulture.
This display garden features a board walk through a grove of mature palm trees.
The trees were all transported to the site, though they looked like they have been growing there for a number of years.

This is a specially commissioned garden by Sarah Eberle.
She won Gold Medal and Best in Show for her gardens at the Chelsea FLower Show.

A hybrid car features in this display.
This water feature is part of the "Earth, Sharing Life Garden" display in the Starlight Marquee.
