Clematis is a genus of of nearly 300 species of climbers, a few which make superb garden plants, while a few others, such as Clematis vitalba (Old man's beard), are problem weeds. The commonly grown species come from cold temperate regions and are deciduous.

Anemone clematis produces masses of flowers, often completely smothering the plant. The usual colour is pink but white forms are also available.

The Jackmanii hybrids have perhaps the most showy flowers, growing to over 15cm! They are available in a variety of colours, from white to purple and red, and most shades in between. Some varieties have two colours, and most have contrasting coloured stamens.
