Spring Orchid Show Roundup 2011

In Auckland, the orchid show season normally starts with the Cymbidium Society of America (NZ Branch) show in the middle of August. This is then followed by the large Waitakere Orchid Club show towards the end of August. In September, Hibiscus Coast Orchid Society, South Auckland Orchid Society, North Shore Orchid Society and New Zealand Orchid Society have their shows, followed by Howick Orchid Society in early October. There were a total of seven shows in six weeks!

The Waitakere Orchid Club spring show was held at the Kelston Community Centre. This year, the show format changed to a two day show, as opposed to two and a half days. It is possibly the most successful show for many years, with record plant numbers and good support from the public.

The early shows are dominated by Cymbidiums:
